Seasonal care

When should you aerate and prevent weeds in a Bermuda lawn?

Aeration and weed prevention solve different problems—and they do not follow the same schedule.

Aerate when Bermuda is actively growing

Core aeration helps relieve compaction, but warm-season grass needs time and active growth to recover. UGA’s Bermuda calendar generally places aeration in the late-spring and summer growing season. Wait until the grass has greened up and is growing strongly rather than aerating dormant turf.

Prevent weeds before they emerge

Pre-emergent treatments must be timed before the target weeds germinate. Spring prevention targets summer weeds, while fall prevention addresses winter weeds. Weather and soil temperatures affect that timing, so a date on the calendar is a starting point, not a universal prescription.

Coordinate treatments rather than guessing

The products used, their label directions, and any seeding plans all matter when scheduling lawn work. Discuss aeration and weed prevention together with your lawn specialist so the plan fits your grass and the weeds you are trying to manage.

Let the lawn guide the plan

A compacted, sunny Bermuda lawn has different needs from shaded fescue. Look at your grass type, rooting conditions, and current weed pressure before booking a treatment. Our approach begins with your property, not a one-size-fits-all seasonal package.
